photo-a-day follow up…

I have started to address my photo-a-day blog so many times…only to write a book about my experience as a photographer, and what I have learned… so I keep postponing the sharing, because there’s still so much more to write and share! But before it’s way too late, here is the short story…

Clearly I haven’t posted any photos for many months, and decided to stop the project. So for those of you who were so lovingly following it every day, I am sorry for stopping the goodness, and thank you for being so supportive for the half-year that I posted daily!  But the wonderful thing is that as much as the goal was one year, I learned so much about myself as a photographer in the time I did the project…and have had some really huge shifts in my focus and goals as a photographer. I may not have completed the photo-a-day project in the way it was intended for 365 days of posting, but I have accomplished something bigger, and that is getting clear on why I am a photographer in the first place, what it is I love to photograph, how I like to photograph, and how I like to share, inspire and be inspired…

I believe that was the original goal, really, to push myself to take a photo every single day for a year, in order to learn more about myself as a photographer, whatever that may be. One very relevant element of my learning was that I do not want to create from a place of obligation, which is how the project started to feel towards 150+ days, especially when I had life situations come up. The photo-a-day became something on my to do list, and often was left to the end of the day. I realized that I want my images to have more time and space around them, more intention, less immediacy, more thoughtfulness, less forced. I also felt that my images were swimming in the pool of all of the other images on the internet…so many images, everywhere floating around, every second, more images, all day, constantly. Everyone has a camera and everyone is a photographer today. I realized that I would like to slow down, take more time and intention to create, and focus on making more powerful images as opposed to MORE images. I also realized how fun it is to capture everyday moments…they can often times be the most beautiful, so I will definitely keep doing this, and sharing when I feel there is something beautiful and wonderful to share…

I am in the process of re-doing my website, among bigger photography goals, and will share my favorites from the photo-a-day project all in one place.  Until then…thank you for reading and following while it lasted!  I am super grateful.

July 17th, 2012 | Day 168 photo-a-day…I studied conceptual art in college and my final thesis was basically that life itself, in biologic and spiritual terms is light, water, energy and space…and every time I look up at the sky, I feel the essence of this idea. I never get tired of the sky. High-res

July 16th, 2012 | Day 167 photo-a-day…This makeup photo shoot was inspiring to say the least, especially the way the models knew how to use their eyes, and how the makeup artist enhanced them.  High-res

July 15th, 2012 | Day 166 photo-a-day…On my way out of the mountains, I wanted to stay a bit longer! I love rustic mountain fences and roads that you don’t know where they lead. High-res

July 14th, 2012 | Day 165 photo-a-day…My step sister’s wedding day…rain is always a wedding blessing, and this hardly-a-storm crept in just before the ceremony just in time for us to ride to the mountain top amidst the sprinkles, and then, the sun opened up for her ceremony, like the glory of god gave her double blessings! July 13th, 2012 | Day 164 photo-a-day…During a portrait session in the park, I realized, ducks are beautiful too, even in the dirty, murky waters. I love this reflection action. High-res

July 11th, 2012 | Day 162…finally some storm clouds moving through Colorado, good god we have needed a break from this heat.  I see a possible return to what we know as summer in Colorado, refreshing rain in the afternoons, thank you great spirit! High-res

too “busy” to blog

So, I always dislike the word busy, especially when it is overused, because I believe we make time for what is important. But honestly, I have never felt so busy in my life!  I have mastered scheduling my life, and when I pack it to the brim (as I have done this month), it leaves no room for spontaneity or getting on the computer and editing my fun photos and blogging, only work, travel and rest, which is all good, I am loving life right now.  However…as much as I keep up with the shooting, I haven’t kept up with the editing (daily), hence no posts for a week.  So, posting the last week of photo-a-day, starting now :)

July 9th, 2012 | Day 160…I am dedicating this book to expressions of love. It is the most beautiful book I have, a true hand made work of art that my dad gave me…and I have always kept it blank for years, not knowing what to fill it with because it is so special…so finally, I will fill it with all kinds of love!
